cúpula
/ˈkupula/ · B2 · noun · f
cupola
⛪ cúpula ≈ cup + ula: an upside-down cup on a roof is a dome
From Latin cupula, 'little cup' or 'small barrel', a diminutive of cupa (cask, tub). A dome has the shape of an upturned cup, and the top of a building is the 'cap' of the structure, which is why cúpula also means leadership.
