謝絶

しゃぜつ · shazetsu · JLPT N1 · noun

refusal

✂️ 謝 = thanks + 絶 = cut off: thank them, then cut off the offer, a polite refusal

謝 means thanks or apology and 絶 means sever or cut off. You see it on hospital signs like 面会謝絶 (no visitors). Shazetsu declines an offer or request with courtesy.
