truth

Truth is the sun (日) over the word (言): 誠 = 言 (words) + 成 (complete); words that come true, faithful speech.

Left side 言 means speech; right side 成 means to complete or fulfil. Makoto is speech that is fulfilled, so words you keep: truth and fidelity.
