見逃す

みのがす · minogasu · JLPT N1 · verb-godan

to miss

見 (see) + 逃す (let escape): you saw it, but let it slip past you

Etymology: 見る means to see, and 逃す means to let escape or release. Missing something means you saw it go by without catching it.

逃 — 辶 walk radical + 兆 zhào (phonetic)
逃 is a semantic-phonetic compound. The walking radical 辶 carries the meaning of motion or going, while 兆 supplies the sound. Together they convey the idea of moving away, hence 'to flee' or 'to escape'.
