🧊 腫 = flesh radical + 重 (heavy): swollen flesh gets heavy, so it swells
The left part is the flesh radical 肉 (written 月) and the right part is 重, heavy. Inflamed tissue fills up and feels heavy. Don't confuse it with 晴れる (hareru, clear skies), which has the same reading but a different kanji.
