派遣

はけん · haken · JLPT N1 · noun

send

📦 派 send out + 遣 send off: two send-characters stacked to mean dispatch

Dispatch is used for sending workers, troops or parcels on a task. 派 means send out and 遣 means send on an errand, so 派遣 is send plus send-off.

派 — water radical 氵 + 𠂢 (branching stream)
派 originally depicted branching tributaries of a river, with 氵 (water) added to reinforce the meaning. The right side 𠂢 shows a stream splitting into smaller channels. From 'river branch' it extended to mean a faction, school, or to dispatch/send out.
