仕入れる

to procure

📦 仕入れる = 仕 (do, handle) + 入れる (put in): handle the putting-in of goods, i.e. restock

Shops use 仕入れる for buying goods to fill shelves. 仕 covers the business act of sourcing, and 入れる means put in, so stock is put in.

入 — single pictograph, two slanting strokes
入 is a pictograph showing an arrowhead or pointed entrance, with two strokes converging downward to suggest something going inward. The original sense was 'to enter,' and it still carries that meaning today. It contrasts visually with 人 (person), where the strokes cross differently at the top.
