sucio

/ˈsuθjo/ · B1 · adv

dirty, filthy

🐷 From Latin sucidus = sappy, greasy (like unwashed wool); kin to succulent

Latin sucus meant juice or sap. Sucidus described freshly shorn wool still greasy with sweat, and that greasy sense became plain dirty in Spanish. Same root as English succulent: juicy turned grimy.
