sangrar

/sanˈɡɾaɾ/ · B1 · verb

to bleed

🩸 sangre = blood, so sangr + ar = to blood, i.e. to bleed

From Latin sanguinare, a relative of English sanguine. The other senses stretch the same idea: a tree is bled for its resin, and a line of text is bled inward from the margin, which is why sangrar also means to indent.
