salir
/saˈliɾ/ · A1 · verb
to go out, to leave, to depart, to head out
🚪 salir = sally forth: both from Latin salire, to leap out
English sally (as in sally forth) and Spanish salir share the Latin root salire, to leap. A sally was soldiers rushing out of a fort. So salir is leaving, going out, heading out the door. Same root gives salida, the word on every exit sign.
