reloj
/reˈlox/ · A2 · noun · m
clock
⌚🕰️ From Latin horologium (hour-teller), same root as English horology
Latin horologium became Old Spanish orloj, then lost its first syllable to give reloj. The hor- part is the same as hora (hour). The final j is a throaty h sound: reh-LOKH, stress on the last syllable.
