reír

/reˈiɾ/ · A2 · verb

to laugh

From Latin ridere (to laugh), the root of ridiculous and deride

Latin ridere lost its middle d on the way to Spanish, leaving re-ír. English kept the d in ridicule, ridiculous and deride, all about laughing at something. The accent on í keeps the two vowels apart: re-EER.
