progreso
/pɾoˈɡɾeso/ · B1 · noun · m
advancement
📈 pro + greso = forward + step (Latin pro- forward, gradi to step)
From Latin progressus, from pro- (forward) and gradi (to step, walk). The same root gives grado (step, degree) and English grade. Progress is stepping forward. Close to the English cognate, but it ends in -o and stresses GRE: pro-GRE-so.
