primavera

/pɾimaˈbeɾa/ · B1 · noun · f

spring

🌸 prima + vera = first spring, from Latin primo vere (at spring's start)

Latin ver meant spring, and primo vere meant at the very beginning of spring. Prima is the same root as primary and premier. So primavera is the first season of the year, and the primrose is named for flowering early.
