pegarse
/peˈɡaɾse/ · B1 · verb
to stick, to cling, to adhere
🩹 pegar comes from Latin pix (pitch, tar): sticky stuff that clings to you
Pitch sticks to whatever touches it, and so does a cold, a yawn or an accent: se te pega. The same verb also means to hit, so pegarse is also to hit each other, i.e. to get into a fight. The -se makes it reflexive: it sticks itself to you.
