oxígeno
/oɡˈsixeno/ · B1 · noun · m
oxygen
🫁 oxígeno = Greek oxys (sharp, acid) + -geno (maker): acid-maker
Lavoisier coined the name because he wrongly thought oxygen was in every acid. Spanish spells the same root with í and x, which is pronounced like a ks sound: ok-SEE-heh-no. Same -geno as hidrógeno, the water-maker.
