oscuro

/osˈkuɾo/ · A2 · adj

dark

🌑 oscuro = obscure: same Latin root obscurus, just without the b

Spanish dropped the b from Latin obscurus, giving oscuro. English kept it in obscure, which still means hard to see or unclear. Chiaroscuro in art is Italian for light-dark, the same word again.
