ocho

/ˈot͡ʃo/ · A2 · num

eight

🎱 ocho ~ octo: an octopus has ocho arms, and October was month eight

From Latin octo, the same root as English octopus, octagon and octave. Latin ct regularly became Spanish ch: octo > ocho, noctem > noche, lactem > leche. Swap the ch back to ct and the English cousin appears.
