obispo
/oˈbispo/ · B2 · noun · m
bishop
⛪ obispo and bishop share one root: Greek episkopos, overseer
Greek episkopos (epi = over + skopos = watcher) became Latin episcopus. Spanish dropped the first e and turned the c into a b to get obispo, and Old English shortened the same word to bishop. Both are the same overseer.
