nieve

/ˈnjebe/ · B1 · noun · f

snow

❄️🍦 nieve ← Latin nix, nivis (snow); same root as the skin cream Nivea

Latin nivem became nieve, with the short i breaking into ie. English borrowed the same root in niveous (snowy) and the brand Nivea (snow-white). In Mexico nieve also means ice cream, usually the water-based kind: snow you can eat.
