lunar

/luˈnaɾ/ · B2 · adj

birthmark, beauty mark

🌙 lunar = of the luna (moon); a mole is a little moon on the skin

From Latin lunaris, of the moon. Folk belief held that the moon caused birthmarks, so a mole came to be called a lunar. Polka dots are lunares too: a vestido de lunares is a polka-dot dress, the classic flamenco look.
