lobo
/ˈlobo/ · A2 · noun · mf
wolf
🐺 lobo = Latin lupus (wolf), same root as lupine and the disease lupus
Latin lupus softened into Spanish lobo: the p became b, as in many Spanish words. English keeps the root in lupine (wolf-like). Lobo also appears in English as a name for the grey wolf of the American Southwest.
