llorar

/ʝoˈɾaɾ/ · A2 · verb

to cry, to weep

💧 From Latin plorare (to wail), the root of English implore and deplore

Latin pl- regularly became ll- in Spanish: plorare > llorar, pluvia > lluvia, plenus > lleno. So llorar is the same root as English implore (beg tearfully) and deplore (lament). Swap ll- back to pl- and the cousin words appear.
