justicia

/xusˈtiθja/ · A2 · noun · f

justice

⚖️ justicia = just + -icia: Latin iustitia, from ius (law, right)

Same root as English justice, just, jury and judge: Latin ius meant law or right. Spanish kept the Latin ending -itia as -icia, as in malicia (malice) and avaricia (avarice). The j is a throaty h sound: hoos-TEE-thya.
