jurar
/xuˈɾaɾ/ · B1 · verb
to curse or swear
✋ jurar → jury, juror: jurors swear an oath (Latin iurare, from ius = law)
Jurar comes from Latin iurare, built on ius, iuris (law). The same root gives English jury, juror, jurisdiction and perjury, which means breaking a sworn oath. Like English swear, jurar also covers cursing.
