jazz
/ˈʝas/ · B1 · noun · m
wind
🎷 Same word as English jazz, but Spanish says it like yas
Spanish took jazz straight from American English and kept the spelling. In many accents the j sounds like a y and the zz like an s, so it comes out as yas. Like most borrowed music words, it is masculine: el jazz.
