ir
/ˈiɾ/ · A1 · verb
to go
🚶 From Latin ire, to go: the same root as exit (ex + ire = go out)
Latin ire survives in English exit (go out), transit (go across) and itinerary (a going-route). Spanish kept the bare verb: ir is just the i- of those words plus the infinitive -r. Only two letters, the shortest way to say go.
