inicial

/iniˈθjal/ · B1 · adj

initial

Cognate of English initial; both come from Latin initium, beginning

Latin inire meant to go in, so initium was the point where something begins. Spanish ends it in -al, as in English, but the c sounds like th in Spain: ee-nee-THYAL. Las iniciales are the first letters of a name.
