inferior
/infeˈɾjoɾ/ · B1 · adj
lower
Same word as English inferior, from Latin inferus, below
Latin inferus meant below, and inferior meant lower. Spanish kept both senses. It can mean worse in quality, lower in rank, or physically lower, as in labio inferior, the lower lip. It is the opposite of superior.
