huevo
/ˈw̝ebo/ · B1 · noun · m
egg
🥚 Latin ovum → huevo: same root as oval, ovary and ovulate
Latin ovum turned into Old Spanish uevo. The silent h was added later so readers would not take the u for a v. Remember ovum → (h)uevo; the o at the end is still there. Like egg in many languages, huevo is also slang for testicle.
