huésped
/ˈw̝esped/ · B1 · noun · m
guest
🧳 From Latin hospes, guest or host: same root as hospitality and hospital
Latin hospes meant both guest and host. That is why huésped can mean the guest you house or, in biology, the host organism. Spanish turned the Latin stressed o into ue, so hospes became huésped, just as porta became puerta.
