horror

/oˈroɾ/ · B1 · noun · m

horror

👻 Same as English horror, but the h is silent: or-ROR, stress on the end

Both words come from Latin horror, from horrere, to bristle or shudder, as hair does when you are scared. Spanish keeps the spelling but drops the h sound. The trilled rr in the middle carries the shudder: o-RROR.
