hada
/ˈada/ · B1 · noun · f
fairy
🧚 From Latin fata, the Fates; fairy and fate share the same root
Latin fatum (fate) gave fata, the spirits who decide destiny. In Spanish, the f turned into h, giving hada. The h is silent, so it is said AH-da. The same thing happened to Latin facere, which became hacer.
