hacha
/ˈat͡ʃa/ · B1 · noun · f
candle
🔥🕯️ hacha comes from Latin facula, little torch: f became h, as in facere to hacer
Latin fax/facula meant torch. Old Spanish turned a starting f into h, so facula became hacha, the same way filius became hijo. Don't mix it up with hacha meaning axe, which is a different word borrowed from French hache.
