hígado
/ˈiɡado/ · B1 · noun · m
liver
🫀 From Latin ficatum, fig-fed liver: higo (fig) + -ado
Romans fattened geese on figs and called the dish iecur ficatum, fig-stuffed liver. Over time ficatum came to mean the liver itself and became hígado. Higo is still Spanish for fig.
