futuro

/fuˈtuɾo/ · A2 · adj

future

futuro = English future with an -o; both from Latin futurus, about to be

Latin futurus is the future participle of esse (to be): literally that which is going to be. Spanish kept it almost unchanged as futuro; English got future via French. Swap the final -e for -o and stress the middle: fu-TU-ro.
