franco

/ˈfɾanko/ · B1 · adj

frank, candid, straightforward

franco = frank: same word, from the Franks, the free people

Spanish franco and English frank both come from the Franks, a people whose name came to mean free. Being free gives the other senses: candid speech, a generous hand, a toll-free port (puerto franco). The franc coin was named after the same people.
