fila

/ˈfila/ · B1 · noun · f

line

fila = file, as in single file: both from Latin filum, thread

Latin filum meant thread, and a row of people or things strung out one after another is a thread of them. English kept the same root in single file, filament and rank and file, so fila is simply a file of people: a line or queue.
