externo

/eɡsˈteɾno/ · B2 · adj

external

externo = external minus the -al; both come from Latin externus, outside

Latin exter meant on the outside, and externus grew from it. Spanish kept it as externo and English added -al. Its opposite works the same way: interno = internal.
