etapa
/eˈtapa/ · B1 · noun · f
phase
🚴🏁 From French étape: a supply stop on a route, so each stop marks a new stage
Étape comes from Middle Dutch stapel, a storehouse, the same root as English staple. Troops on the march stopped at these depots, so the word came to mean one leg of a journey. Each day of the Tour de France is still called an étape.
