emborrachar
/emboraˈt͡ʃaɾ/ · B1 · verb
to intoxicate, inebriate
🍷🍰 em- + borracho (drunk): to make someone borracho, or to soak a cake
Borracho may come from borracha, a leather wine skin. Emborrachar means filling someone with wine, the way you fill a wine skin. Spanish also uses it for soaking a sponge cake in liquor, as in bizcocho borracho.
