durar

/duˈɾaɾ/ · A2 · verb

to last

🔋 durar = endure, durable, duration: all from Latin durare, to last

Latin durare (to harden, to hold out) comes from durus, hard. English kept the root in durable, duration and endure. Something hard holds out over time, so durar is to last: La película dura dos horas = the film lasts two hours.
