diente
/ˈdjente/ · A2 · noun · m
tooth
🦷 diente = dent-ist's word: Latin dens, dentem, same root as dental
Spanish turned Latin short e into ie, so dentem became diente (like tempus → tiempo). English kept the root in dentist, dental and denture. A diente de ajo is a tooth of garlic: one clove.
