despejar

/despeˈxaɾ/ · B1 · verb

to clear, to remove

🧹⚽ des- (un-) + pejar (to hinder): to un-block, the opposite of impede

Pejar comes from Latin pedica, a foot snare, from pes, foot. English impede comes from the same root. To despejar is to take the obstacle away: clear a room, boot the ball out of your own box, or let the sky clear up.
