daño
/ˈdaɲo/ · A2 · noun · m
damage
💥 daño = damn-yo: the damage is done, damn it; from Latin damnum (loss)
From Latin damnum, meaning loss or harm, the same root as English damage, damn and condemn. The Latin mn became Spanish ñ, as in somnus > sueño. The curse sense survives in hacer daño (to hurt) and mal de ojo-style hexes.
