culpa = root of culprit and culpable; mea culpa means my fault
From Latin culpa (fault, blame). English kept it in culprit, culpable and the borrowed phrase mea culpa. Spanish uses it in tener la culpa (to be at fault) and echar la culpa (to put the blame on someone).
