cuero
/ˈkweɾo/ · B1 · noun · m
leather
🐄⚽ From Latin corium, skin: kin of cuirass, a breastplate once made of leather
Latin corium (hide) gave Spanish cuero, English cuirass (armour first made of leather) and excoriate (to strip off the skin). Footballs used to be made of leather, so cuero is also slang for the ball.
