cuchillo
/kuˈt͡ʃiʝo/ · A2 · noun · m
knife
🔪 From Latin cultellus, little knife — same root as English cutlery
Latin culter (knife) gave the diminutive cultellus, which became cuchillo in Spanish and, via Old French coutel, cutlery and cutlass in English. The -illo ending is the Spanish small-thing suffix, so a cuchillo is literally a little cutter.
