caer
/kaˈeɾ/ · A1 · verb
to fall
🍂 From Latin cadere, to fall: same root as cascade, cadence and decay
Latin cadere lost its d on the way into Spanish, leaving caer. English kept the root in cascade (water falling), cadence (the fall of the voice) and decay (to fall away), so caer is the fall hiding inside those words.
