banco
/ˈbanko/ · A2 · noun · m
depository financial institution
🏦🪑 Etymology: Germanic bank = bench; money-changers worked at a bench
Spanish banco and English bank and bench all come from the same Germanic root. Medieval money-changers did business at a bench, so the word for the seat became the word for the institution. One word, both meanings: bench and bank.
